Colby Schwartz is an artist from the Dallas/Fort Worth area currently based in Northeast Ohio. He received his BFA in Drawing and Painting and Ceramics from the University of North Texas in 2019 and his MFA in Painting from Kent State University in 2026.

Schwartz's practice investigates abstraction through reduction, materiality, and objecthood. Drawing from the visual language of modernist and minimalist painting, he sources and reconfigures reductive compositions to examine questions of labor, authorship, and authenticity. Through processes of sampling, repetition, and reconstruction, his work creates a dialogue between painting and object, image and construction. His work challenges the conventional notions of originality within abstraction using it as a readymade source.

Schwartz has exhibited work at 500x Gallery, Ro2 Gallery in Dallas; ArtSpace 111 in Fort Worth; Mirus Gallery in Denver; and ROY G BIV Gallery in Columbus.  He was a finalist for the 2026 William and Dorothy Yeck Young Painters Award and was the recipient of a Graduate Student Senate Research Award Grant at Kent State University.
